Scott grew up in Enid, Oklahoma. Believe it or not, he was in 4-H where he primarily showed steers and heifers and participated in livestock and meats judging. Other projects included leadership, citizenship, and photography.
He attended Oklahoma State University with the hope of becoming the next Carl Bernstein or Bob Woodward. However, he felt called to teach and graduated with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. During his time in college, he felt called into the ministry. He was the youth director at Highland Park UMC in Stillwater and the Morrison UMC.
He attended Asbury Theological Seminary and graduated with an MDiv in 1995. During his time in seminary, he was an intern at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and with hospice.
Scott was ordained an elder in the United Methodist church iin 1998 and served churches in Altus, Blair, Lone Wolf, Edmond, and Ponca City. He spent 8 years in Ada as a campus minister at East Central University. In 2015, he was appointed to Mosaic United Methodist Church.
In 2024, Mosaic joined the United Church of Christ. Scott also was granted ministerial standing with the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference of the UCC.
